Collect your car: Most car hire companies are located within the airport. Their desks are reached by going down a long slope on the right hand side just before you reach the arrivals lounge. After you have completed your paperwork, you will be directed straight through to the pick up car park which is on the lowest floor of the car park. Other car hire companies require you to go through the departure lounge and take a courtesy bus to their office/depot on the road leading to the airport.
Exit the airport car park and take the Malaga/Cadiz exit – this will take you past the large San Miguel building. Keep to the right hand side and follow signs to Cadiz, ie don’t go up over the bridge. You will now very briefly be on the coast road.
Keep right and take the first turning which is signed for ‘Parador del Golf’ and then almost immediately you see another sign for the Parador (to the left) and the MA417 to Churriana and Cartama (to the right) Take the turn to Churriana. You will also see a sign for the A366 to Alhaurin de la Torre (ignore this). You will quite quickly come to a large roundabout CHURRIANA written on it. Follow signs to Churriana and Cartama and you will go up a dual carriageway, past Lidll on the left, until the next roundabout which also has CHURRIANA written on it. Take the first exit (right) signed ‘Cartama’ but be careful to stay on the road and not drift of to the right at the slip road into the suburbs. Keep going and you will pass the Mercadona supermarket on your left hand side. Just follow this road and go straight over the first roundabout. Then to the roundabout with a large FRA sign – go straight over and keep going following signs for Campillos (past Eddie’s cars on the right) You will come to a roundabout signed Campillos which will take you onto the A357 (Autovia). Once on the A 357 follow the road until you see the exit for Álora.
Take the Álora exit, and follow the road until you come to a T junction. Turn right here and then take the next turning on the left which is signed Álora.
Follow the road now for about 10 minutes until you come to a T junction with the enormous venta/restaurant Los Caballos on the left. Do not take the earlier left hand turn towards Álora signed ‘neuvo accesso’ (or new access road) unless you want to tackle the one way streets through Álora which might be a bit confusing for first time visitors but instructions for this bit are given below for the brave.
At the T junction with Los Caballos Bar Restaurant – which means The Horses – and you will see big signs with horses on – turn left over the little bridge to the roundabout. Take the second exit marked Álora. This will take you up the hill past the railway station on your right. Keep going until you come to the traffic lights and here turn right towards El Chorro. Signed Camping/El Chorro.
Follow the El Chorro road for 3 km and we are on the left. You will go through a newish residential area and past a big sports centre and school on your right. Then through an area with olive trees either side and to a small hamlet which is about 2.5 km from the traffic lights. After this little settlement you will see a small ruin on your left hand side at the brow of a small rise. The road then drops down and to the left.
You will see Finca Los Llanos on the left hand side as the road curves again to the right with cypress trees at the entrance.
For the Brave
If you want to go through Álora on your way to us :-
After you have come off the A357, turned right, and then left, follow the road until you see the sign for Álora Nuevo Accesso and turn left. Follow the road up the hill until you come to the top. There is a small roundabout at the top – go past with this on your right hand side and you will see in front of you a cobbled street with bollards either side. This is Calle Carmona and is a one way street. Drive up here to the traffic lights. Here you need to take a sharp left turn up the hill and turn right at the top and immediately left and then right. The signs to El Chorro are quite clear. You will then drop down towards Calle Veracruz – at the bottom you have to turn left and you will see the white taxis parked in front of you. Here you need to cross the road and go left, but it sort of looks like going straight on. You will come to the traffic lights – go straight over towards El Chorro and follow directions from 7 above. From the traffic lights we are the first house on the left after the 3 km point.
For the Very Brave
If you want to go the motorway route - the only difficult bit is between the airport and the A357, after that its just straight on till you see the Álora sign.
Exit the airport, follow the signs for Malaga and Cadiz, then take the Malaga direction. You will come on to the old coast road, stay to the right and quite quickly you will see a slip road off on your left which will take you onto the E7 motorway. As you join the motorway, immediately move to your left onto the motorway, and then you will have large blocks of flats on your right – you need to take the exit immediately after you see the big Heineken sign in green on the top of the flats.
The turn off is signed for Cartama, University Hospital, Parque Tecnologico. The slip road runs alongside the motorway for 1km, keep to the left hand side as at the end of the slip road the road divides – you need to keep to the left and follow the Cartama signs. You will then go under a bridge and you need to turn off to the right – the signs are at the turning. This takes you onto the A357 where you need to move left on to this.
Follow the A357 until you come to the Álora turn off which is after the Pizarra turn. Then follow instructions on page 1 from number 4.
